POOR
For auction is a missile launcher apparatus and rail for a Nike-Ajax missile, estimated to be from at least 1957. Apparatus is non- functional and is believed to be previously on display at Ft. Monroe in Hampton, Virginia before being moved to Air Power Park in Hampton, and eventually donated to the Isle of Wight County Museum. No historical documentation is available for this item, other than an image believed to be the missile this apparatus contained. It has been included in the photo section for review. Also available upon request is paperwork showing changes of ownership between the City of Hampton and Isle of Wight County, as well as an official copy of deaccession paperwork from the Isle of Wight County museum.
Overall condition is extremely poor, and was found by the Isle of Wight County Museum as Non-Restorable. Components are completely rusted through, parts of the apparatus have rusted completely in half, and many surfaces are heavily degraded. Rail is in better shape than launcher, however still has many of the same rust issues.
Other important information:
- ITEM WAS TESTED AND WAS FOUND TO CONTAIN LEAD PAINT - Documentation finding lead paint will be provided along with sale of this item.
-Item may require a crane or other machinery to be loaded. Exact weight of item is not known.
-Total metal composition is NOT known.
-Longest section of rail measures approximately 22 foot long. A flat bed or large trailer will be required for transport.
Item is located at 13036 Nike Park Rd, Carrollton, VA 23314. Buyer will be solely responsible for loading and transportation of the apparatus and rail.
